First Time Lip Filler – what you need to know

First time lip filler

These days, more and more women and men are having their lips injected with dermal fillers to achieve fuller, more-even lips. But even though lip enhancement with dermal fillers is a standardized treatment with relatively few side effects, lip filler newbies in particular keep these four things in mind before their lip injections so that the dream of full lips doesn’t turn into a nightmare.

1. Make sure you’re healthy!

Got a runny nose and a sore throat the morning of your lip filler appointment? Not a good combo! Dermal fillers are injections of hyaluronic acid and require a healthy and happy immune system. Taking medication that thins the blood such as aspirin can also be issue when getting lip fillers and should be stopped at least one week before lip enhancement. In order to ensure your fighting fit and ready for your appointment, we recommend that you make sure and take a look at our rules of conduct, which help you better understand the do’s and don’t’s for the run-up to your appointment.

2. Have clear beauty goals!

Preparation is key, especially with a treatment like lip injections! Knowing what your beauty goals are and having a clear picture of the result are a huge step towards a successful lip filler appointment. Not all lip injections are the same and neither are all of our beauty goals. Some of us want to primarily increase volume while some of us what to focus on changing the shape of the lips. We advise you bring along some before and after pictures to show your doctor so that they can create a personal treatment plan for you and your beauty goals!

3. Little pain, Lots of gain!

Yes, it’s true. A lip injection provides a certain level of pain. However, many people find the lip injection less painful than expected. The reason for this is the anaesthetic lidocaine, which is light anaesthetic already contained in many high-quality dermal fillers. This ensures that the lips are numbed after the first injection, so that the treatment can be relatively painless. However, if you have a particularly low tolerance level for pain, your doctor will be happy to apply an anaesthetic cream to make the treatment as pleasant as possible.

4. Swelling after the injection is completely normal

Even lip filler professionals like to forget that their lips can swell after a lip injection. But this process is completely normal! It is best to prepare yourself for the fact that your lips can swell twice as much before the injection – and sometimes asymmetrically. But there is no reason to panic! The swelling will disappear completely on its own after 2 days at the latest.
