3 suprising causes of wrinkles

Causes of wrinkles

We all dread the day wrinkles start to become more and more prominent on our face. One of the main ways to keep wrinkles at bay is being aware of some of the causes. There is, of course, the ones we all know; sun damage, facial expressions, and stress. However, there are quite a few causes of wrinkles that may surprise you.

Your sleeping position

We have all been there. Tossing and turning all night trying to find the perfect sleeping position. However, another thing you should be aware of is how your sleeping position may be affecting your skin. Sleeping on our sides or our stomachs can put pressure on our face, causing collagen breakdown and causing wrinkles to form. Focus on alternating your sleep position. If this isn’t an option, try swapping your typical cotton pillow case for silk or satin pillowcase and make sure to use a night cream before bed.

Technology

Commonly known as tech neck, technology is slowly becoming one of main causes of wrinkles on the neck. Constantly looking down at our laptops or phones, is putting strain on our necks and causing the skin to fold, sag and wrinkle. A way to counter this is to make sure to place your laptop or phone on a higher area such as a laptop stand, this will take some of the strain off your neck. We also recommend taking breaks from technology when you can to give your neck a break.

Pollution

As more and more of us are living in highly-populated areas, it is becoming more and more clear that pollution is a major cause of wrinkles. Those who live in cities are now much more likely to develop wrinkles before those who live in rural areas. This means it is vital to cleanse our faces in the morning and at night to give our skin its best chance.
