We all have our fears: spiders, snakes, heights, But, something we all fear is the day our first wrinkles begin to appear. Even though it feels like they may, wrinkles do not appear overnight. The truth is that wrinkles form over our entire life. But, what causes these horrors? Factors like genes, living conditions and diet all play a role in the formation of wrinkles. However, a number of everyday factors that you wouldn’t think of often contribute to the process.
Sweet dreams, Nightmare Wrinkles: sleep masks and eye wrinkles
The skin around the eyes is particularly delicate and should be strictly protected from too much external impact in the form of pressing, rubbing or pulling. Sleeping masks that lie tightly against the eye can have a negative effect on the skin and irritate it. This irritation, in turn, can lead to collagen degradation and eventually initiate premature wrinkle formation.
What you can do about it? If you wear a sleep mask to bed, make sure it fits as loosely as possible so that the skin is not stretched during the night. Also, when choosing a sleep mask, go for soft materials like silk that cause less friction. Finally, always make sure to wash the sleeping mask regularly to prevent the accumulation of bacteria triggered by creams and sweat, which will help prevent inflammation and irritation as well.
Sports Bras and cleavage wrinkles
Although this one feels like a bad joke, sports bras can cause wrinkles to form in the décolleté or the cleavage. Many sports bras fit very tightly and squeeze the breasts to protect them during exercise. Unfortunately, this squeezing can cause wrinkles to form, particularly in women whose skin has already become thinner and lost elasticity. This compression causes lines to form during exercise that overtime become more permanent and pronounced. To avoid this, ensure that when next wearing a sports bra it fits well and moisturise the area to help with skin elasticity.
Not so smart at all – smartphones and neck wrinkles
For many of us, the first think we do when we wake up is check our smartphones. However, it is important to pay attention to how you are holding your phone in the future. If you often find yourself looking down at your phone, you risk creating neck winkles. When looking down at our phones, we bend our neck forward, forming and deepening horizontal wrinkles across the thin skin of the neck. Next time you reach for your smartphone, make sure to hold it as high as you can to keep your neck upright and your skin looking fresh and young.
