Dermal Filler 101: How much filler you need

How much filler you need

For many people, the idea of getting dermal fillers for the first time can be quite overwhelming. One of the most overwhelming things can be knowing how much filler you need to achieve the results you want. The honest answer is that this varies from patient to patient based on a wide variety of factors. However, we can provide an overview of the typical amounts that patients need for each area which will help you have a better idea of what to expect.

Lip Filler

Our most popular treatment is by far and away lip filler. Many first-timers come to us wanting a huge boost of volume in their lips and think they may need 2ml or even more. Others come to us desperate to maintain a natural shape and think that 0.5ml may be too much. The truth of the matter is that most patients will begin with between 0,5ml and 1ml to achieve a natural result with noticeable addition of volume and definition. For those chasing a big boost of volume, we recommend that you slowly build up with continued treatments rather than immediately injecting 2ml.

Cheek, Chin and Jawline Enhancement

Often paired together to contour and define the entire face, cheek, jawline and chin filler all require different amounts of filler to achieve visible results. Chin filler does not require a huge amount of filler, typically between 1-2ml depending on the effect you are looking for. Meanwhile, cheek and jawline filler can require a significant amount of filler, with some patients opting for anywhere 3-5ml in these areas. This is because we typically put around half of this amount in each side.

Tear Trough Filler

The tear trough area is one of the fastest areas in the face to lose volume and become quite hollow. However, the area does not require a large amount of filler to reduce the signs of ageing in the area. We would typically see between 0.5ml and 1ml between both sides. Often, we will pair this with some filler in the cheeks/mid-face to help lift and support the undereyes.
